Another Canon PowerShot is on the streets. It’s name: PowerShot SD850 IS/DIGITAL IXUS 950 IS.

Yes indeed it’s name it’s quiet weird but never the less this one replaces the SD700 IS (Ixus 800 IS) and has an 8-megapixel 1/2.5″ CCD sensor and 4 x optical zoom with a shift-type optical Image Stabilizer (IS) system and 2.5-inch LCD monitor with wide viewing angle. It uses Battery Pack NB-5L to shoot up to approx. 230 images (based on the CIPA standard when the LCD monitor is on), and SD memory cards, SDHC memory cards and MultiMediaCards for the recording media.
And this camera have Face Detection Function.

It was on 17 February 1987 that Canon announced a “new dawn” in 35mm photography with the launch of the EOS 650 camera.

“Today, it is difficult to appreciate just how much of a gamble this was for the company. The EOS 650 was not just another new camera – it was the launch of a system that effectively replaced everything that had gone before. It was not compatible with any previous lenses, and very few existing accessories could be used. Switching to an EOS camera required an investment in a completely new system.”
“The name EOS is an abbreviation of Electro-Optical System. However, Canon was also making an allusion to Eos, goddess of the dawn in Greek mythology. She is probably better known by her Roman name of Aurora, which she lends to that luminous phenomenon, the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights.”

After the face recognition system, Canon is working to something new: the Blink Shot technology. This Blink Shot will not let you take the picture until everybody’s eyes are open. I made a litle research on the internet, and noticed that most people don’t find this feature very useful, but I think therea are some cases where the Blink Shot could be helpful. A while ago, I making photos for some schools and kindergartens, and when there was 2,3 or more kids in the frame..well, I was missing a blink shot thing like this. Of course, if you’re shooting candids this feature would really make you miss the moment. I’m sure that this feature, be have on/off seting. I wonder if it works on animals, if yes this will be great for my cat.
We don’t know when the Blink Shot will be available, but here is another thing that Canon is preparing: A Smile Shot

Because we have some post around here about Canon EOS -1D III I think it’s a good ideea to tell something about new accessories for these camera.

The EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM is set to become the ultra wide-angle zoom of choice for professionals. With vastly improved peripheral sharpness, it replaces the popular EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM as Canon’s leading wide-angle zoom. A constant f/2.8 aperture ensures exceptional low light performance and depth-of-field control throughout the zoom range.
In combination with the EOS-1D Mark III, Canon expands the professional EOS system with the following accessories:
* Speedlite 580EX II – When connected to the EOS-1D Mark III, the Speedlite 580EX II allows for weather resistant flash shooting and flash control via the camera’s menu system. Replacing the Speedlite 580EX, it offers faster, silent recycle times and a more durable build quality. A new Off-Camera Shoe Cord, Compact Battery Pack and Speedlite Bracket (also released today) maintain moisture and dust resistance for off camera shooting.
* Wireless File Transmitter WFT-E2 – Smaller, lighter and more versatile than its predecessor, the unit enables wireless image transfers to computers and remote FTP servers. Support for HTTP means that picture editors can connect to the EOS-1D Mark III over the internet – allowing them to view, select and download images from the camera’s memory card moments after capture. PTP connection mode enables two-way communication between the EOS-1D Mark III and a computer for wireless remote shooting with the supplied EOS Utility software.
* Original Data Security Kit OSK-E3 – Like the Data Verification Kit DVK-E2, the Original Data Security Kit OSK-E3 can detect whether an image has been changed since it was captured by the camera. In addition to data verification, Original Data Security Kit OSK-E3 supports image encryption for protection of critical images.

A few posts before I was talking about Canon EOS 1D Mark III. Here is a video with this new Canon EOS 1D Mark III camera. It’s in franch, but you can see it in action, and especially hear the 10 frames/second sound (which is the fastest on the market).

Canon announce the new Canon EOS-1D Mark III camera, which will be available in spring. The new Canon camera is shooting pictures with 10.1 megapixels with a maximum of 10 frames/second. Another good thing about this camera, you will not be forced to use the viewfinder, EOS-1D Mark III camera has a Live View mode, wich will dispaly a preview of the picture on the 3.0-inch LCD, like a point and shoot camera.

Mark III will have an integrated cleaning system, a little curtain will shake inside the camera for 3,5 second when camera is turned on or off, in order to remove the dust from the CMOS sensor.
The new CMOS sensor has a 1.3 magnification factor, so at a 55mm lens you will have around 71mm worth of view.
A new lithium-ion battery will be released with this camera, the LC-E4 battery. With the LC-E4 battery you can shoot up to 2200 pictures.
It seems that the price of the new Canon EOS-1D Mark III will be 4000$-5000$.
